POTSDAM -- The new Metropolitan Opera production of Jules Massenet's dark romantic tragedy, "Werther," will screen at 12:55 p.m. through The Met: Live in HD on March 15 at the Potsdam Roxy Theater, 20 Main St.
Richard Eyre's production of Werther, stars Jonas Kaufmann and features French mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch in her Met debut.
Tenor, Jonas Kaufmann, stars in the title role of the tortured poet, in Massenet's sublime adaptation of Goethe's revolutionary and tragic romance. French mezzo-soprano makes her Met debut as Charlotte, the object of Werther's love. Rising young maestro Alain Altinoglu conducts the opera.
The opera will be performed in French, with English subtitles. The approximate running time is three hours, including one intermission.
Doors open a half-hour before show time and there is immediate seating for advance ticket holders.
Tickets prices are $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, $12 for students and $9 for youth.
Purchase tickets by calling the Community Performance Series Box Office at 267-2277, visiting the Roxy Theater or Northern Music and Video in downtown Potsdam or the CPS Box Office in the lobby of Sara M. Snell Music Theater.
There will be an encore screening at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
