POTSDAM -- In “The Buffalo Spirit” (Lexingford, 2016), North Country author Dale Healey tells the true story of his 17 years in the close company and confidence of Native American medicine men and spiritual guides.
Healey, a well-known Potsdam buffalo rancher until his retirement, describes the otherwise hidden world of sweat lodges, peyote and datura sacred ceremonies, and many other aspects of Native American wisdom and cultural practices.
A book signing by the author has been scheduled by North Country Neighbors, 6 Main St., Potsdam from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Healey’s book, subtitled “A Memoir of the Road Less Traveled By,” traces the author’s wandering path as a young man from Potsdam to the American West, where he was befriended by the Chumash healer and teacher, Grandfather Semu. Much of the book is devoted to what Healey learned from this unforgettable Native American figure.
Healey will be available to chat about his experiences and answer questions. Further information and directions can be obtained from North Country Neighbors at 268-1055.
Healey’s publisher, Art Bel of Lexingford Publishing LLC in Potsdam, says, “we consider the North Country a treasure trove of amazing stories waiting to be discovered and published. We are particularly proud to bring The Buffalo Spirit to a worldwide readership.”
The Buffalo Spirit can be found at www.createspace.com/6527482 or by using the book title as the search word on Amazon.com and other online booksellers.
It will appear soon at many North Country bookstores.
