POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Humane Society Board of Directors has approved a deal with Northern New York Community Foundation to administer an endowment fund.
The humane society provides service to eleven municipalities in St. Lawrence County and has been in operation for over 50 years.
“Partnerships are important for all non-profits, but especially for the Potsdam Humane Society.
We see our partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation as a critical step towards developing a more sustainable financial foundation for the PHS. With a shared mission to serve the North Country region, and the help from generous, compassionate donors, PHS and the NNYCF's collaboration will help ensure that compassionate care is provided to more than 1,000 animals per year and that a valuable community service continues for another 50 years.”
PHS board president, Carrie M. Tuttle said. This partnership provides options for donors interested in supporting PHS for both short and long-term needs. The endowment fund established at NNYCF also ensures that that any gifts made to the fund are properly administered in perpetuity.
“This collaboration is central to why community foundations exist. Beyond grants and scholarships, we are primarily a conduit connecting donors and their interests, providing long-term oversight. We are honored to be asked to help maximize their ability to raise resources to support their important work and mission,” said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director.
The newly created endowment fund can receive all types of gifts, as well as be a resource for those doing legacy and estate planning who want added certainty their gift will provide support forever.
The Northern New York Community Foundation works with individual and corporate donors, as well as non-profit organizations and schools, to enhance the overall value of their missions and interests. To discuss the PHS Endowment Fund, contact the Foundation at 782-7110.
