CANTON -- The Potsdam Elks Lodge will collect candy bars for its “Sweet Treats for Soldiers” drive Friday, Feb. 17, at the St. Lawrence University men’s hockey game that starts at 7 p.m.
Spectators attending the game are asked to bring a candy bar to donate.
Collected candy bars will be donated to the Fort Drum USO primarily for distribution to soldiers as they deplane at Fort Drum from overseas deployments.
The USO operates the "There When They Land" snack bar at the Fort Drum airfield and has found that one of the first requests returning soldiers have is for candy bars that are unavailable otherwise.
Candy bars will be available for redeploying service members, active duty service members and recruits at the Fort Drum Main Center, and, in the future, at the planned USO Center at the Syracuse Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
