POTSDAM — Potsdam Central School will have an interim principal at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School starting Monday, Nov. 2.
The Potsdam Central Board of Education appointed Julie Welch to the position at a meeting last night.
She replaces Shannon Pitcher-Boyea of Malone who stepped down Monday, Oct. 26 from the position she was appointed to earlier this year, citing family reasons.
Welch was a counselor at Potsdam’s elementary school for many years before moving on to and retiring from Colton-Pierrepont Central School as their principal, according to Potsdam Central School Superintendent Joann Chambers.
Welch will serve in the position through Christmas.
“We have someone lined up to be an interim after Christmas but the board has not made that appointment yet…I expect them to at the next meeting,” Chambers said.
The person expected to take over after Christmas is Wayne Walbridge.
Walbridge is a retired administrator who retired from a superintendent position in Malone, Chambers said.
The next board of education meeting is set for Nov. 10.
