POTSDAM --An accused burglar whom police say was breaking windows in a Market Street apartment from the inside is accused of numerous counts, including felony criminal mischief and burglary.
Village police say they received a complaint at about midnight this morning of a male who was breaking a window on the top floor of 43 1/2 Market St., over the University Bookstore, from inside. He then is alleged to have thrown a chair through a window, which landed in front of the store, and then to have broken another window on the Raymond Street side, showering glass down onto the sidewalk. The suspect fled before the arrival of a patrol.
Reaching the top floor, police say, they discovered that a window in the hallway had been broken and that a door to a vacant apartment had been kicked in and damaged. The door to another apartment was found open. Officers secured the scene and began looking for the suspect.
At 1:13 .m., police say, they located a suspect behind Aubuchon Mall between Willow and Depot Streets. Taken into custody, police say the suspect was "positively identified" by a witness.
The suspect is Seth T. Mooney, 24, of Valatie. He was arraigned before Town Justice Charleson on two felony counts of second-degree burglary and three felony counts of third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, criminal mischief with intent to damage property, and second-degree criminal trespass.
Mooney was taken to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility and held in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bail bond.
