GOUVERNEUR — More than 50 local fire chiefs, legislators and other emergency personnel are expected to meet today for the first legislative outreach meeting of 2014 at the Gouverneur Fire Department, 1035 U.S. Highway 11 at 2 p.m.
Local rescue personnel will be joined by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush and Senator Joseph Griffo during the seminar.
Topics discussed will include a review of state legislation that would exclude the use of chemical flame retardants on residential upholstered furniture, ban sex offenders from becoming volunteer firefighters, require the use of seatbelts by volunteer firefighters, prohibit illegal modifications to multi-family dwellings, and all EMS to bill for services.
The seminar will provide a comprehensive overview and explanation of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) 2014 legislative agenda as well as an update on other important legislative issues and concerns of FASNY and the fire service.
