Orchestra of Northern New York recognizes Classical Music Month

POTSDAM – If you are someone who thinks classical music isn’t for you, the Orchestra of Northern New York (ONNY) just might change your mind.

In recognition of September being Classical Music Month, ONNY Music Director and Conductor Michael Colburn pointed out many people may be listening to this genre without even realizing it.

“I like to remind ONNY audiences and all lovers of music that these days ‘classical music’ is a term that encompasses a wide range of styles and influences. It includes Broadway, jazz, popular, and film music - not just Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms,” Colburn noted.

“Classical Music Month provides a wonderful reminder that the Orchestra of Northern New York is our region's only source of live, classical music presented by a professional symphony orchestra. We greatly appreciate every opportunity to share our music with residents of the North Country,” he added.

Classical music month was established in 1994 by President Bill Clinton and is a national-recognized event.

Remaining 2026 ONNY concerts include American Lit:101 on October 17 at 7:30pm at SUNY Potsdam, and on October 18 at 3:00pm at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Watertown. They will also perform ‘Tis the Season on December 12 at 3:00pm at SUNY Potsdam, and on December 13 at 3:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Watertown.
