To the editor:
This coming Tuesday, May 18, the voters in the Ogdensburg School District will have the chance to vote their support to help fund the Ogdensburg Public Library through a small tax hike. I believe that the OPL is still a valuable asset to the community and deserves a "Yes" vote.
Even in this internet age a healthy library makes for a healthy populace. The Ogdensburg Public Library is still a gathering place, although the COVID threat has resulted in further reduction of library hours. From the computers and printers that are available, to the many wonderful periodicals, books, audio books, and movies on DVD, there's s lot that the OPL provides. The staff can also provide help with research in many areas including local genealogy, and programs for different age groups including the all-important "children's story time".
It's been said that "reading is fundamental", and that still holds true in our fast-paced high-tech world. I urge voters to vote "Yes" on the Ogdensburg Public Library referendum this Tuesday.
