OGDENSBURG -- An open boundaries ice fishing derby is set for 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 3, sponsored by the Ogdensburg VFW.
Entry fee is $15 per person. $10 of that goes towards prize payouts, and $5 is a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Eligible fish are Northern pike and walleye. Payout will go to the top three fish of each species. Total payout will depend on the number of entries. Only one fish per species per person will be judged.
Judging will be at the VFW Post, 525 Caroline St. All fish must be at weigh-in by 5 p.m. To determine winners, fish will be weighed and measured. If there is a tie for weight, the longer fish will be the winner
There will be food, presentation of prizes, a 50/50, and live entertainment to follow weigh-in.
New York fish and game regulations apply to all registrants, and all registrants must have a valid fishing license.
Any alteration of the fish will result in disqualification. No frozen fish will be accepted. Fish with white eyes or other signs of being frozen or altered may be sliced open by VFW officers to be checked internally.
All decisions by the VFW officers are final. Entries are non-refundable. Any unregistered fishermen will be disqualified.
You may register at the post any day after 3 p.m., until registrations close at 8 p.m. Friday, March 2.
