GOUVERNEUR -- Two St. Lawrence County residents died Friday morning after the vehicle they were in was struck by a tractor trailer, according to state police.
Troopers say Sardor Asatulleav, 29, Brooklyn, was driving a tractor trailer east on US Highway 11 when he failed to maintain his lane. He reportedly entered the westbound lane, sideswiped a white 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, then struck a gray 2017 Toyota Rav4 head on.
The Chevrolet Silverado was operated by Steven Kruppenbacher, 53, Oak Field. Kruppenbacher did not sustain injury from the accident.
The Toyota Rav4 was operated by Joshua T. Amo, 47, Ogdensburg, with two passengers, Gonzalo Ramirez-Zuniga, 67, Potsdam, and Rosa Maria-Solis, 56, Potsdam.
Maria- Solis and Ramirez-Zuniga were reportedly transported to Gouverneur Hospital.
Maria-Solis sustained minor injuries; Ramirez-Zuniga was pronounced deceased at Gouvernuer Hospital, police said.
Amo was reportedly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The autopsies were scheduled for Friday at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
The New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU), Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Traffic Incident Management (TIMS) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) all responded to the scene to investigate.
State police were assisted by Gouverneur Fire and Rescue, State DOT, and St. Lawrence County Coroner.
The investigation in ongoing, police said.
