CANTON – An Ogdensburg man who allegedly beat a woman in the head and arms with a baseball bat on May 25 was indicted for second-degree attempted murder on July 28 by a St. Lawrence County grand jury.
Ryan J. Joanette, 35, currently an inmate at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, was indicted for second-degree attempted murder, one count each of first and second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The victim of the assault was treated for serious physical injuries at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg police said. The alleged attack at 217 Spring Street was reported around 8:50 a.m.
The investigation revealed the victim was struck numerous times with a baseball bat on the head and arms by Joannete.
Other indictments handed down July 28:
Paul Cruse Jr., 44, and Amanda Lawrence, 38, both of 1416 Ford St., Ogdensburg, were each indicted for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged they both unlawfully possessed more than five grams of the stimulant methamphetamine on Oct. 6, 2021 in the City of Ogdensburg.
Amy Marsh, 43, of 12 County Route 50, Brasher Falls, was indicted for third-degree criminal solicitation. It is alleged that on or about August 2020 in the Town of Stockholm, Marsh did solicit a person under the age of 16 to engage in a felony offense.
