OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and Heuvelton Central School’s fourth grade Mad Scientists recently teamed up for hand-washing lessons.
On hand from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center to work with the children were Dr. Kome Oseghale, pediatrician at Claxton-Hepburn, and Michele Catlin, community outreach coordinator.
Oseghale and Catlin provided demonstrations on proper hand-washing and gave lessons on why it is important, and when to wash one’s hands.
The children were then able to demonstrate their hand-washing effectiveness using Glo-Germ solution under an ultraviolet light. The germ-simulating gel showed “that clean hands may not be clean after all,” CHMC said in a news release.
Claxton-Hepburn will also provide lab coats to the Mad Scientist students.
