CANCELLED: Norwood Village Green Concert Series hosting June 6 'China to Appalachia' concert

NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series is sad to announce that the performances at both NNCS (including workshops) and the evening performance of “China to Appalachia” at the bandshell scheduled for this Thursday, June 6 are cancelled due to the performers being sick.

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series will continue its 51st Annual Season on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. with GRAMMY Award winning artists Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer as they join Chinese classical hammered dulcimer player Chao Tian.

Their performance combines music from “China to Appalachia” and beyond.

Instrumentation includes yangqin (Chinese hammered dulcimer), gourd banjo, five-string banjo, ukulele, guitars, dumbek, cello-banjo and mandolin.

The group’s repertoire includes traditional Chinese and Appalachian music as well as contemporary and traditional music from around the world. Unusual combinations explore new arrangements to old music.

“From China to Appalachia” was born of a friendship and mutual love of musical exploration experienced in jam sessions that inspired a show speaking to the power of music to connect cultures.

Classically trained since the age of five, Chao Tian spent years working as an instructor and the director of the Arts Education Center at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU).

She is a founding member of BLCU Arts College's music department and has been appointed as an officer of the International Culture Exchange Program in 2019.

Chao has performed in over 30 different countries and regions across the globe and collaborated with numerous musicians in many projects.

TWO-TIME GRAMMY® Award Winners, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are master musicians with a career spanning 40 years.

Their harmonies are backed by instrumental virtuosity on the guitar, five-string banjo, ukulele, mandolin, cello-banjo, and more.

Cathy & Marcy have performed at hundreds of bluegrass and folk festivals and taught at close to 100 music camps worldwide.

The series is supported in part by the Northern New York Community Foundation helping establish and maintain the series endowment fund.

Public monies from the Town of Potsdam and the Village of Norwood also support the series.

It is also supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and New York State Legislature.
