POTSDAM – A Norwood-Norfolk Central School graduate has been named the 2018 Women’s Lifter of the Year and received the 2018 Best Lifter Award.
Vanessa Babcock, 31, is a member of the World Natural Powerlifting Federation, a drug-free powerlifting federation.
She competed in her first local competition in October 2017 and was victorious in setting four state records.
She then competed in a national competition in February 2018 where she set five National records and five State records.
She competed in a world competition in October 2018 and became a World Champion, setting six World records.
She was also awarded the 2018 Women's Lifter of the Year Award and the 2018 Best Lifter Award.
Vanessa now holds a total of 22 records consisting of 10 State records (4 in the 105 lb. weight class and 6 in the 114 lb. weight class), 6 National records and 6 World records.
