To the Editor:
The Northern Lights District of the Boy Scouts of America oversees scouting activities in St. Lawrence County. The district committee has recently convened a nominating committee to fill vacancies on the committee. This year, we are looking to recruit several unit commissioners, a finance chair, a public relations chair and a membership chair as well as vice-chairs for special projects.
The nominating committee is as follows: Jason Clark, BSA District Chairman; Scott Quinell, BSA District Commissioner; Dr. Robert Saidel, Canton Optical; Corey Haynes; Tim Welpe, SLC NYSARC; and David LaClair, USW Local 450.
We are also looking, as we always are, to introduce new potential Scouts and adults to the world of Scouting at the local troop, pack, crew and post levels. The Northern Lights District is currently comprised of 27 local units and serves more than 400 scouts. The units are spread well across the county but we are always looking to extend our reach so that more boys will be able to participate in the program.
Each year the Northern Lights District hosts a Klondike Derby, a Merit Badge Day, a Spring Camporee, Cub Scout Summer Camp, Cub Scout Belt Loop Day and a host of other local and district-wide events.
If you, or if someone you know, would like to become involved with the Boy Scouts here in St. Lawrence County, please either contact someone from the nominating committee that is listed above or contact someone in your community who is already involved in Scouting.
