Senior midfielder Sam DeMello scored two goals as the nationally-ranked No. 2 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team improved to 5-0 with a 3-0 win over Potsdam State at Maxcy Turf Field in Potsdam, NY. Senior Nick Lincoln also scored for the Saints, while classmate Will Congdon and first-year student Ozzy Morales assisted on goals.
The Saints opened the scoring in the first half in the 8th minute when Morales dribbled past his defender and crossed the ball to DeMello, who one-timed it in the net to give the Saints the 1-0 lead. St. Lawrence made it 2-0 five minutes into the second half when Lincoln headed in a corner kick from Congdon. DeMello capped the scoring in the 82nd minute when he hit home a penalty kick after being fouled inside the 18.
St. Lawrence finished with a 14-3 edge in shots and a slim 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Nate Goss-Woliner earned the shutout in goal for the Saints, saving the one shot that he faced. Joseph Glackin made six saves for Potsdam.
St. Lawrence will travel to Brockport on Saturday for a non-conference road game at Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3:00pm before opening up Liberty League play against Skidmore College at 2:00pm on Sunday.
