The nationally-ranked No. 12 St. Lawrence University women's crew teams swept Union College in three races on Sunday on the Mohawk River's 2000m course.
Both the Saints' varsity 8+ and 2nd varsity 8+ won in a light headwind in the early races. The varsity 8+ posted a solid :23 second victory over the Dutchwomen in 8:24.0. The 2nd varsity 8+ followed with another victory for the Scarlet and Brown in 8:26.5 ahead of Union's boat (8:36.8).
The St. Lawrence novice 4+ made it a sweep in a tailwind in the final event, rowing in 9:52, well ahead of both Union (10:57) and Schenectady Community College (13:51).
The varsity 8+ included Madeline Fones, Jessica Burdett, Sally Dankner, Britton Weber, Jenette Kloss, Alissa McCaffrey, Karen Blakelock, Heidi Weiss and coxswain Kelly Greenwood. The 2nd varsity was comprised of Jennifer Longwell, Hannah Durant, Cadence Trapini, Eleanor Jones, Abigail McIvor, Rose Dowley, Daniela Stokes, Gabrielle Schreffler and Yukiko McQueeney. McQueeney also was coxswain in the winning novice 4+, with Ann West, Grace Conrad, Blakelock and Schreffler rowing.
The St. Lawrence men's and women's crew teams will compete again next Sunday, April 28 in the 2013 Liberty League Championships in Saratoga, NY.
