MASSENA — The New York Power Authority will host a free Halloween Spooktacular from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Frank S. McCullough Jr. Hawkins Point Visitors Center.
The community event will feature arts and crafts, pumpkin decorating and movies. NYPA also will distribute candy to trick-or-treaters dressed in costume.
Hawkins Point, the admission-free visitors center for the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project, features hands-on exhibits about electricity, energy, the environment and area history.
Visitors can generate electricity by pedaling a bicycle generator or experience static electricity with a Van de Graaff generator.
The center also features an audiovisual terrain map showing the St. Lawrence River between Ogdensburg and Massena, a wood-carved map detailing Jacques Cartier’s exploration of the river, and panoramic views of the project’s power dam. A community room is available for public use.
