FOWLER -- A fire believed to be caused by arson destroyed a vacant house ay 727 Emeryville Road Tuesday afternoon, according to St. Lawrence County Fire Investigator Joe Lacks.
Nearly 40 Gouverneur firefighters responded to a structure fire at 4:25 p.m. and upon arrival units found the two story wood frame house burned to the ground, Lacks said.
The home had reportedly been vacant for some years and the owner was Merle (Kay) Boclair of Fowler.
Firefighters battle the blaze on Tuesday.
"Investigators from Gouverneur and the St.Lawrence County Bureau of Fire determined that the fire was incendiary in nature," Lacks said.
The building was reportedly not insured.
No injuries were reported.
The Richville Fire Department covered the Gouverneur fire station during the blaze. Gouverneur rescue was also on scene, Lacks said.
State police are assisting in the incident, he said. Anyone with information on the fire is asked to contact the state police at 379-0012.
