MORRISTOWN -- Morristown Central is getting just under $1 million toward afterschool programs for about 125 students.
The state grant, to be paid over five years, will total $992,000, according to the New York State Network for Youth Success, which announced the funding.
“This will be incredibly beneficial to the community, allowing students to receive additional learning time and experience new opportunities, while providing parents with peace of mind while they remain at work,” NYSNYS officials said in an emailed statement.
Morristown’s funding, which was approved in the 2018 budget, is part of a larger program aimed at providing additional afterschool spots for some 22,000 students across New York state.
“The Empire State After-School program is a historic investment in the youth and families of New York State,” Kelly Sturgis, executive director of the New York State Network for Youth Success, said in a prepared statement. “Thanks to Governor Cuomo, 22,000 additional students will have the opportunity to participate in an afterschool or summer program. These programs have real and lasting positive impacts on the lives of youth and their families. We look forward to continue working with the Governor and the Legislature to expand this program over the coming years so every child who wants a program has access to one.”
