To the Editor:
Yet another Fire Prevention Week has come and gone and I would like to recognize our first responders who remain prepared to answer fire alarms 24/7, The Massena Permanent Firefighters Local 2220. Their guidance and experience made sure the annual drill ran smooth and flawless.
These dedicated individuals employed by the Village of Massena are academy trained firefighters who maintain the Massena Fire Department’s station, firefighting equipment and apparatus in top running order. They bring value to firefighting situations such as responding within minutes to an emergency, placing of the apparatus strategically at fire scenes and most importantly, providing valuable life saving direction to our volunteer firemen.
All too often at three o’clock in the morning in sub-zero temperatures when the alarm rings, it’s too easy to roll over in bed hoping someone else will respond to the call. Village and Town residents of Massena should feel secure knowing whatever the weather conditions may be, Massena Fire Department personnel will be there.
Complementing the Massena Permanent Firefighters are the Massena Volunteer Firemen whose dedication to our community is unquestionable. With both entities serving our emergency needs, Massena is in competent hands.
