MASSENA -- A local woman is hosting a Sunday bake sale and vendor show to raise money so she can join the Carolina Queens women’s professional football team.
Windy DeRushia, who says she has past experience in the sport with the New York Gems, Syracuse Sting and Montreal Blitz. The game is played the same as men’s football, just with a smaller ball, DeRushia said.
The event will be at the Massena Moose, 4 Ames St., from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be 50/50 tickets for sale.
DeRushia says she aims to raise $1,000. That will cover her equipment, travel and insurance costs, she said.
The season starts in April and concludes in July.
