MASSENA -- The town will have an extra expense during this year's spring cleanup.
The county will now charge $8 each per mattress and box spring, Highway Superintendent Frank Diagostino told the Town Council at their Wednesday, March 18 meeting.
He suggested the town pay the extra fees.
"If we don't take them, we're probably going to find them somewhere and have to take them anyway," he said. "There was a company that took them and recycled them. I don't think they're taking them anymore."
The town gives vouchers to town residents who can bring them to the transfer station on set dates and use to drop off a load of junk for no cost.
It's generally held in late April or early May.
