MASSENA -- The Board of Education rejected a motion on Thursday night to appoint pre-K through grade six level-leaders. That measure had been tabled last month.
The board also appointed three teachers and a groundsman.
The grade-level leader rejection came at the request of Interim Superintendent William Crist. During a brief discussion prior to the vote, board member Kevin Peretta noted that the teachers’ contracts would have required an additional memorandum of understanding, which they did not have.
The board also appointed two full-time teachers, one half-time teacher, and a new groundsman. Amanda Pierce was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Madison Elementary at a salary of $38,133 per year. Kristen Laramay was hired to teach grade one at Jefferson Elementary for $38,133 per year. Margaret Trombley was hired as a half-time high school physical education teacher at a salary of $18,563 per year. Michael Baines was brought on-board as a district groundsman at a salary of $42,361 per year, pending a probationary period.
The board accepted resignations from internal claims auditor Suanne Gotsch effective Dec. 1. Johnathan Hirschey, Nightingale Elementary reading teacher also had his resignation accepted by the board, effective Sept. 20. Each resigned for personal reasons, according to a document provided by the board.
