The staff and administration at Seaway Career & Technical Education Center in Norwood are please to announce the selection of Dan Shirley as the Potsdam Rotary Club/Seaway Career & Technical Education Center Student of the Month for October 2011. Dan, who is enrolled in the Computers & Business Technology Program, is also a student at Massena Central. He is the son of Robert and Michelle Shirley. Mr. Rahn, Instructor, has said the following about Dan:
Dan has learned how to build computers, repair computers, and clean up virus infected systems. Dan has also learned Introduction to Business at the college level and has learned how to public speak at the college level. This year Dan has spent most of his free time researching how to program software and create objects, sprites, and fully playable video games in class.
Dan will be able to get a job out of high school as an entry level computer repair technician, data entry specialist, customer support, and technical support. If Dan continues onto college he will be able to pursue careers in video game design, software engineering, web design, and many other high end, high tech careers.
Dan has shown a big interest in both computer programming and video game design. Dan always goes well beyond the expectations of his assignments and turns in products that are well above the standards. It seems if Dan continues to pursue his enjoyment of programming and design he will be very successful in whatever path he decides to take in life.
