MASSENA -- Mayor Tim Currier on Tuesday issued a proclamation recognizing Martha Slack, a retired school athletic director and current Joint Recreation Commission member.
She started as a physical education teacher at Massena Central School in 1973. She became the district’s athletic director in 1978 and held the title until her retirement. She became high school assistant principal in 1997 and held the post until her 2005 retirement.
“She coached various sports throughout her notable career and assisted in orchestrating the rise of girls sports programs at Massena Central, while overseeing the continued success of the boys,” Currier read from the proclamation. “Undoubtedly, she has made a positive impact on the lives of a countless number of students.”
