Massena police surround 40 Willow St. early Friday morning. They later went in with a search warrant and arrested Christopher Hebert, who is accused of ramming a police vehicle on Thursday. Gerald Dissottle, who resides at the address, was charged with helping Hebert hide from police.
MASSENA -- Village police arrested the man this morning suspected of ramming a police cruiser on Thursday and fleeing the scene. They arrested a second suspect for allegedly helping him hide.
Christopher A. Hebert, 42, of 14759 State Hwy. 37, Massena is being held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton without bail. He is charged with felony second-degree criminal mischief, unlawful fleeing police in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and resisting arrest. He was also charged with unattended motor vehicle, failure to comply, failure to keep right, running a stop sign and unlicensed operator.
Gerald A. Dissotelle, 43, of 40 Willow St. us charged with hindering prosecution and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument. He was arraigned in Massena Village Court and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton in lieu of $2,500 bail.
Lt. Mark LaBrake said police collared the pair after executing a search warrant at Dissottle's residence at 6:30 a.m.
"We developed information [Hebert] was there," LaBrake said, adding that he was taken into custody without incident.
Sgt. Mark Englert added that police allegedly found hypodermic needles and two small packets containing heroin residue.
The case began around 3 a.m. Thursday morning when police tried to pull over Hebert on Spruce Street for a traffic violation. Hebert, who is on post-release supervision from state prison and wanted by state parole officers, allegedly rammed the police cruiser. He tried to drive away, but his 2013 Ford pickup broke down after a short distance and he fled on foot, LaBrake said.
Police are not yet identifying the officer who was behind the wheel, but have said he was not injured and the car was damaged extensively.
Hebert is on post-release supervision from state prison after having served time for a parole violation from a 2001 burglary conviction.
