MASSENA – The Massena Neighborhood Center's annual Christmas program is in full swing with applications being taken weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. now through Dec. 7 at the center's office at 61 Beach St.
Applicants should bring proof of address and income.
Volunteers have been busily sorting and matching new hats and mittens along with many other items that go to make up the holiday boxes distributed to local needy families.
A couple of areas where the numbers are falling short of the anticipated need are new, non-religious board books suitable for infants and toddlers, and toothbrushes for young children.
With over 400 families expected to participate in this year's program, cash donations are especially needed and appreciated to purchase the meat and other perishable food items that make up the Christmas dinner baskets.
This program is possible because of the generosity of local organizations, businesses and individuals.
Donations, payable to Massena Neighborhood Center, may be dropped off or mailed to the Center at 61 Beach Street, Suite 103, Massena, NY 13662.
Massena Mountain Mart, located on the corner of South Main and Romeo streets, has once again offered to provide space inside their store for a drop-off box for new hats, mittens, board books, toothbrushes, etc.
For information on any of the programs offered by the center, contact Elaine Eggleston, director, at 764-0050.
