MASSENA -- The Massena Memorial Hospital Board of Managers on Monday night fired interim CEO Charles Gijanto.
How members voted and who made the motion were not immidiately available.
Gijanto was hired at the end of August, splitting half of his time as MMH CEO and the other half as Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center CEO. At the time, Massena hospital officials said they expected him to hold the job for nine to 12 months, so he is being let go about two months earlier than originally announced.
The announcement came later in a meeting where MMH board chair Loretta Perez and MMH Dr. Jayvant Jhaveri said they have been in contact with St. Lawrence Health System CEO David Acker. SLHS is one of two potential affiliates for MMH.
Perez refused to comment when asked if Acker is refusing to make a presentation on their proposal, at least in part, because he wants the MMH board to fire Gijanto.
Jhaveri said they did not discuss the CEO. Perez, when asked if she discussed Gijanto with Acker, said "not yesterday."
When pressed for more information, she clammed up and cited a non-disclosure agreement.
