MASSENA -- Village of Massena Fire Department Firefighter Austin Dishaw recently graduated from the Recruit Firefighter Training program at the New York State Fire Academy located in Montour Falls.
The physically and mentally rigorous training program runs for 11 weeks. During this training, Firefighter Dishaw earned National Certifications in Firefighter I, Firefighter II and Hazardous Material First Responder Operations.
Dishaw also received numerous state certificates in Apparatus Operator – Pump, Truck Company Operations, SCBA Confidence, Firefighter Survival, Courage to be Safe, Rescue Technician – Basic, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Vehicle Rescue Operation Level, Flammable Gas Emergency Response Workshop, Confined Space Awareness and Safety, Fire Prevention for the Recruit Firefighter, and Version 5 Fire Reporting Workshop.
Dishaw also passed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), which is required to graduate from the Fire Academy.
