MASSENA -- Massena Fire officials have announced a $1,300 grant award that will support training programs undertaken by the fire department.
"We are deeply grateful to the Northern New York Community Foundation for their unwavering support," said Patrick O'Brien, Chief of the Massena Volunteer Fire Department. "This grant will enable us to enhance our training programs and empower individuals to act swiftly and confidently in emergency situations. By equipping our community with life-saving skills, we are strengthening the fabric of our community and fostering a safer environment for all."
The Massena Volunteer Fire Department plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in Massena and surrounding areas, officials say.
With the grant, the department will be able to expand its educational outreach efforts, equipping community members with essential skills to respond effectively during emergencies.
According to Chief Patrick O'Brien, the training programs supported by the grant will cover various topics, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) usage, basic first aid techniques, and fire prevention strategies.
"These skills are invaluable and can make a significant difference in saving lives during critical moments," he said.
The Northern New York Community Foundation is committed to supporting initiatives that address the evolving needs of communities across Northern New York, officials say.
"Through strategic grant making, the foundation aims to create positive, lasting impacts that enrich the lives of residents and contribute to the region's overall vitality," officials say.
