MASSENA -- The Department of Environmental Conservation is taking public comment through Nov. 5 on its draft work plan to investigate a contaminated former mill area at the Alcoa west plant.
The DEC says the area became contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) from old hydraulic systems.
The DEC says they will develop a remediation plan based on their findings.
The DEC's plan includes taking soil samples and drilling wells to test the groundwater.
The area was used to produce milled aluminum between 1942 and 2000, the DEC said.
