POTSDAM -- State Rt. 56 between Potsdam and Norwood was closed Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle out of control broke a pole with electric lines, also injuring the driver and three children in the vehicle.
The driver, Thomas D. Deshane, 55, of Sissonville Road, told state police he fell asleep. They said he went off the east shoulder of the road, striking the pole.
Troopers said Deshane and three children in the vehicle complained of pain. Potsdam Rescue took them to Canton Potsdam Hospital.
State police said the roadway near Sissonville had to be closed until National Grid workers arrived to shut off the power and move the pole.
