STOCKHOLM – A Moira man was held Saturday after being arrested for assault, criminal possession of a weapon and six other charges after state police responded to a reported domestic dispute.
Mark A. Joanette, 44, was arrested at 6:58 p.m. Saturday following a domestic incident that occurred at Joanette's father's residence on Buckton Road in the Town of Stockholm, police report.
He is alleged to have punched his girlfriend several times in the face, as well as choked her using his hands and restricting her breathing.
Joanette also allegedly struck his girlfriend with a plastic pellet gun. During the incident he reportedly kicked his girlfriend's 9-year-old son, and also pointed the pellet gun at him.
He was charged with third degree assault, second degree menacing with weapon, criminal obstruction of breathing, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, endangering the welfare of a child, second degree harassment-physical contact, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said.
Joanette was arraigned before Town Justice Burns in the Town of Brasher Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail on $1,000 bail, or $2,000 bond. He is to appear in the Town of Stockholm Court on Oct. 19.
