LOUISVILLE – This community will celebrate the 200th anniversary of its founding Aug. 13 to 15, with a slate of bicentennial events including a parade, firemen’s races, music, fireworks, and a family picnic at the beach.
Louisville Bicentennial weekend begins Friday, Aug. 13 with a 6 p.m. ice cream social at Louisville Fire Station #1 and the annual Duck Race.
On Sat., Aug. 14, the Firemen’s Field Day will be ongoing throughout the day, with an antique car show, concession and beer stands, commemorative hats, tee-shirts and historical books, and craft vendors. A parade starts at 10 a.m. at the old Louisville School and goes across the new bridge to the arena. A chicken barbecue will be served beginning at noon, and the fireman’s races take off at 1 p.m. The band Traffic Jam will perform at 5 p.m. The day ends with fireworks at dusk
The weekend ends on Sunday, Aug. 15, with a 9:15 a.m. ecumenical church service at the Louisville Community Church with the Louisville Landing Church and St. Lawrence Catholic Church. At noon, everyone is invited to a family picnic at the Massena Town Beach Free, Rt. 131, where parking hamburgers, hotdogs and papergoods will be provided. People are asked to bring a side dish.
