CANTON – Learn how to grow shiitake mushrooms May 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. near Canton. Local grower Bob Wagner of Turtle Hill PLC will teach preparing logs with shiitake mushroom spawn. Attendees will learn about raising and eating gourmet quality shiitake mushrooms.
The workshop includes the extraction of hardwood logs, inoculating them with commercial plug spawn, sealing the holes with wax, and how to lay them up to optimize mushroom production. The cost is $35. Participants will be able to take home one plugged Shiitake log as part of the workshop fee; additional logs will be available on a limited basis. Advance registration is required to receive the exact venue location.
