CANTON — To support community connectedness, during County Government Month, the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau, in partnership with the Sheriff’s Department invites local classrooms to attend Law Enforcement Day on Tuesday, April 30 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity for youth, in our area, to come learn about Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Emergency Services. Many local first responder agencies are experiencing staffing shortages and events like this give an opportunity for students to ask questions about the agencies and the opportunities for future employment,” said County Sheriff Rick Engle.
Law Enforcement Day will be held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility parking lot at 17 Commerce Lane in Canton.
The Sheriff’s Department and New York State Troopers will offer canine demonstrations, drone activities, and their emergency vehicles will be on display.
The St. Lawrence County Emergency Services will have their mobile command unit available so students can learn about its resources during emergencies. Jail tours will be offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“Each year local students enjoy visiting the St. Lawrence County Emergency Services building. Due to this year’s renovations, we had to be more creative about tour locations. We appreciate everyone’s willingness to offer flexibility and look forward to seeing students learn about how our county protects lives, upholds laws, and responds during emergencies,” stated Alexa Chase, Youth Bureau Director.
School districts, and teachers, can contact Rebekah Zuhlsdorf to schedule tour times by emailing rzuhlsdorf@stlawco.gov or calling the Youth Bureau at 315-379-9464.
