Canton, NY – Taking a break from Liberty League action, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team cruised by the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 2-0 on Tuesday evening.
The Golden Knights improve to 4-8-0 (0-3 Liberty League) with the win and continue league play on Saturday when they host the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds at 2:00 pm at Hantz Turf Field. The loss drops the Kangaroos to 5-7-0 on the year.
Getting things going early in the first half, Dani Felty (Marcellus, NY) found Lauren Flynn (Andover, MA) with a touch pass in the 5th minute, and Flynn buried the ball in the lower right corner of the net to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. The goal and assist are the first of the season for Flynn and Felty respectively.
Felty was not done in the first half, as she found Andrea Reidman (Kirkville, NY) on a short pass in the 18th minute, and Reidman did the rest, this time beating the keeper to the lower left corner of the net for her first of the year, and the Knights took a 2-0 lead into the half.
Making her second career start in net, sophomore goalkeeper Steph Lynch (Baldwinsville, NY) was flawless for the Green and Gold, recording 4 saves and guiding the backline to a shutout. Lynch also recorded a shutout last year against SUNY Canton in her only other collegiate start.
The Golden Knights outshot the Kangaroos 13-9 on the evening, and held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
