Junior David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY) and sophomore John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) of the Clarkson University Baseball team continued the strong tradition of Golden Knight student-athletes as the duo was chosen for Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
Both advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-American consideration. The pair became the ninth and tenth players since 1998 to earn All-District honors as members of the baseball team.
Wixted, a third-year outfielder for Clarkson, has a 3.67 grade-point average in Supply Chain Management and was a Liberty League All-Star as a sophomore. This season, Wixted hit .321 and had a team-best 28 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. He also ranked second for the team in hits with 45, starting all 35 contests in centerfield for the Golden Knights.
Coleman, the Liberty League Rookie of the Year as a freshman, has a 4.0 grade-point average in Mathematics. This spring, he led the team in slash stats with a .361 batting average, a .423 on-base percentage, and a .444 slugging percentage. He also had team bests with 48 hits, 59 total bases, and 13 walks while committing just seven errors at shortstop in 35 games for a .956 fielding percentage.
Coleman, who was also chosen as All-District and as an Academic All-American for basketball, becomes just the third student-athlete ever at Clarkson to earn All-District honors in two sports, joining Matt Nachman (Baseball/Soccer) and Stephanie Sealer (Basketball/Tennis).
