Sunday River, ME - On a day in which a quarter of the field couldn't make it through both runs, all five members of the Clarkson University Men's Alpine Ski team were able to stay on their feet, capturing fifth place in the giant slalom on Thursday afternoon at the USCSA National Championships.
The Golden Knights, both the men and women, will compete in the slalom this weekend at the USCSA Nationals.
Sophomore Christian Perryman (West Lebanon, NH) was the top performer for the Knights on Thursday, taking 14th overall among the 107 skiers in competition, finishing in 2:26.03 to earn USCSA Second-Team All-American status. Senior JP Phaneuf (Montreal, QUE) crossed the finish line a little over a second slower than Perryman in 2:27.19 to take 19th place, and rounding out Clarkson's top three was classmate Cedrik Proteau-Dubois (Ste. Adele, QUE), who took 34th place in 2:31.07. Bill O'Connor (Mahopac, NY) placed 48th in 2:35.57, and David Simon (Montvale, NJ) came in 60th overall in 2:42.81.
