On the eve of the NCAA New York Regional to be held in Potsdam, the Clarkson University Volleyball team was awarded some good news from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as the organization named outside hitter Aishvina Arasu (Brea, CA) the AVCA New York Region Freshman of the Year and an AVCA New York Region First-Team All-Star.
Arasu joins Sara Artus (three times) and current teammate Lani Durio (two times) as the only Golden Knights to achieve AVCA All-Star status, and she becomes the first Clarkson player to be named the regional newcomer of the year.
Arasu, a Liberty League First-Team All-Star, ranked second in the conference this year in kills per set (3.43) and totaled 398 through 33 matches. She also finished eighth in the conference in hitting percentage (.255) while tacking on 138 digs (1.19 per set) and 49 total blocks (0.42 per set).
The Golden Knights, seeded third in the NY Region, will take on sixth-seeded Nazareth College at 8:00 pm Friday night at Clarkson's Alumni Gymnasium with the Clarkson Athletic Department hosting the NCAA New York Regional Championships for the second straight year.
