AMHERST -- Despite a career-high 14 saves from junior goalie Homero Flores (Mexico), the SUNY Canton men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 double overtime loss to Daemen College at the host Wildcats tournament in Amherst, N.Y. Saturday night.
The Roos were to take on SUNY ESF in the second round today while Daemen will square off against Paul Smith's College tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Daemen out shot the Roos 28-6 but Flores kept them in the game making five saves in the first half, six in the second and three more in the first overtime before giving up the game-winning goal just over two minutes into the second extra session.
Brennan Dooling connected on the game-winner at 2:22 of the second overtime as he gathered in a corner kick from Alvaro Orozo and volleyed a shot just past Flores.
Junior forward Moubarak Agoro (Bronx, N.Y.) had three shots for SUNY Canton, sophomore midfielder James Catillaz (Gansevoort, N.Y.) had two and freshman midfielder Rob Shane (Bolton Landing, N.Y.) had two.
Jason Hartman was called on to make two saves to register the shutout for the Wildcats.
