Joseph "Joe" Carbone, 92, Massena

MASSENA -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph “Joe” Carbone, age 92, will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Massena on Wednesday February 28, 2024, at 10:00 am with Rev. Leagon Carlin presiding.

Burial with full military honors will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Massena in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends are welcome to call the Phillips Memorial Home, at 64 Andrews Street, Massena on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to the care and expertise of the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

Joe passed away on Friday February 23, 2024, at Canton Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by his family.

Joe was born to the late Michele and Teresa (Morabito) Carbone in Massena, NY on November 21, 1931.

He attended Massena schools with his siblings, and later enlisted into the United States Army to serve his country proudly during the Korean War.

Upon his honorable discharge, Joe returned home and soon started work with a construction company where he was an integral part of development on the creation of roadways and bridges for I-90 and I-81.

Later Joe was employed with the Seaway Development Corporation and eventually was hired at the United States Postal Service as a mail courier, retiring after nearly 30 years of service.

Joe married his loving bride, Annette M. Guilbert on April 7, 1972 at Emmanuel Congregational Church, in Massena.

Joe was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and an usher and later at St. Mary’s Church in Massena, a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 79 and enjoyed spending his free time at the Massena Public Library and walking in and around town.

Joe also enjoyed having coffee with friends at McDonalds and playing at the Casino. He was a gentleman and hard worker. A proud opinionated American, devoted father and grandfather.

Joe is survived by his loving and devoted children, Joseph E. and Christine Carbone of Waddington, NY and Mary Ellen LaShomb of Norwood, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Michael Ellsworth of Oneida, NY, Anthony Carbone of Ogdensburg, NY, Jarren Harbour of San Antonio, TX, Sydnee Harbour and Madalyn Richardson both of Waddington, NY and Jordan and wife, Natsucha LaShomb of Seattle, WA. Joe is also survived by a brother, Franklin “Frank” Carbone of Syracuse, NY along with several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his caring wife, Annette in 2005, brother; Patrick “Tony” Carbone in 1983, a sister, Phoebe Ann Savoca in 2018 and a grandson, Michael C. LaShomb in 2019.
