John Harold Powers Jr., 79, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- A Funeral Mass for John Harold Powers Jr., age 79, formerly of Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Frary Funeral Home.

Burial will take place in the Spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mr. Powers passed away on Monday, February 12 at Halifax Hospice Home in Edgewater, FL, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Ogdensburg to John Harold Powers and Gladys (McLean) Powers.

He graduated Ogdensburg Free Academy and SUNY Canton before proudly serving in the US Navy. John retired from Niagara Mohawk and worked at Maple City Auto later taking up a hobby job at the Daytona International Airport, where he fostered many close friendships.

He is predeceased by his parents, John Harold & Gladys Powers, his sisters, Mary Sovie & her husband, James Sovie, Eileen Bernhardt, Nancy Campbell, and his beloved wife of 41 years, Suzanne (Towsley) Powers.

John is survived by his children, Shelley Powers-Pearson (Daniel Pearson II) Cindy Alcombright (Renee Lutz), and John Harold Powers III, his sister, Marilyn Carr (Gerald Carr). grandchildren, Eric John LeClair, Alexei Sue Alcombright, and John Harold Powers IV. He had several nieces and nephews, including Sean Campbell and Jodi Stewart, who were like children to him. He is also survived by his loving companion, Suzanne Kiah of 14 years and her family.

John enjoyed traveling with his family, camping, woodworking in his shop, fishing on the St. Lawrence River, golfing in sunny Florida, and helping countless others in need.

John’s final request was for everyone to “Keep Having Fun!”
