(Presque Isle, Maine)- Abdulai Jagana (B ronx, N.Y.) scored two goals late in the second half lifting the SUNY Canton men’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Sunday.
Both teams battled to a scoreless game through 80 minutes of play before Jagana connected twice to give the visitors the win. In the 81st minute Jagana scored his first goal turned out to be the game-winner. Jagana’s second score came in the 87th minute off an assist from Francesco Cardillo (Tonawanda, N.Y.).
Sankung Sillah (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded his fifth shutout of the season making five saves against the Owls.
The Roos, ranked 16th in the USCAA Coaches Poll, improved to 10-6-1 overall and now have a 6-1-1 record against USCAA opponents. SUNY Canton has earned impressive wins over USCAA ranked teams such as Paul Smith’s College (No. 4), SUNY ESF (No. 11), and the Owls who received votes for the top 20 poll this past week. The Roos also tied Briarcliffe College earlier this season when they were ranked second in the country.
The Roos hit the road for their next two matches against St. John Fisher on Oct. 13 and Vermont Technical College on Oct. 15. They’ll wrap up their regular season hosting the University of Maine at Fort Kent in a two-game series on Oct. 22 and 23.
