HOPKINTON -- The Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire Department opens its doors to area residents from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the firehouse, 2876 St. Hwy. 11B.
This is part of an initiative with volunteer fire departments across the state for National Volunteer Week 2011.
There will be tours of the station, demonstrations and trying on firefighter apparatus and turnout gear, and activities and demonstration stations throughout the firehouse for visitors to participate in.
They will discuss requirements to be a volunteer, answer questions, and let visitors know how to get involved in the fire department.
Also, on site will be the St. Lawrence County Fire Education Trailer, an interactive walk-through fire safety demonstration that is safe and fun for kids.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office will have representatives for the Operation Safe Child program, a database of up-to-date photographs and information about a child that can help law enforcement quickly respond to a child's disappearance.
