MASSENA -- The Holy Name of Jesus Academy has recognized seven students for excellence at the school’s 2010-2011 end-of-the-year ceremony.
Rita Goodwin of Potsdam and Therese Gagnier of Lyons received New York State’s “Triple C” award. Certificates from Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman were bestowed on the girls at the end of the school’s recital and award program. The three C’s stand for "commitment to bettering oneself, character which helps and guides, and courage to meet challenges ahead."
Another distinction was made during the ceremony to honor the high school students who participated in the annual National Latin Exam administered by The American Classical League. Three tenth graders, Anne Beck, North Lawrence, Tessa Betz, Nicholville, and Anne Marie Nienaber, Kansas City, Kan., all received the highest mention, “Maxima cum laude”, while Lilly Carlisle, Nicholville, and Olivia Napolitano received mention, “Magna cum laude.”
The Holy Name of Jesus Academy in Massena was established in 2007 and is a daughter school of The Congregation of Dominican Teaching Sisters of the Holy Name of Jesus of Fanjeaux. The French-based Dominican Congregation has two schools in the United States and eight in France. Although the majority of the students at The Holy Name of Jesus are from various locations in New York State, the school welcomes girls from a number of other states and countries.
