POTSDAM -- A new exhibition of historic Potsdam postcards will open at the Potsdam Public Museum on June 20. It will remain on display until September.
Marcia Wing of Norwood donated the collection in March.
One depicts a house on Elm Street, which was "heated by an Imperial Steam Boiler, installed by Irish and Jebo, 29-31 Water Street." Another portrays the 1908 Independence party candidate for New York state lieutenant governor, Dr. Daniel W. Finnimore, who was a resident of Potsdam. There are also postcards showing aerial photographic views of Potsdam, taken by photographer Dwight Church of Canton in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Other postcards include a variety of street scenes, buildings such as the old Central Fire Station, a postcard view of the "Great (Ice) Storm of March 27, 1913", views of "Clarkson Memorial School of Technology," the "State Normal School," "Crane Normal Institute of Music" and and more.
The museum is at at 2 Park St. and is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
