Hermon native and Buffalo State College philosophy major Matthew Guminiak will be participating in the 2010 Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl on Nov. 20 at Dartmouth College (N.H.) with a team of five other students.
The team competition is sponsored by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) and covers a range of topics, including law, medicine, business and public policy. Teams receive case studies in order to prepare arguments for the competition. At the competition, teams are asked questions based on the cases and judged on intelligibility, ethically mindful answers and thought process. They are allowed one minute to prepare and 10 minutes to present their argument.
The Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl serves as a qualifying competition for the National Ethics Bowl, where the top 32 schools will compete on March 3 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
